AGENDA Blog · Corrections CAASPP sample ?'s Open mic/poem performance reader's/writer's workshop HW: 27 poems read EAP: 27 poems written Well, this is all Ryan's fault. I told him not to put me in the blog. But, he did and now I'm picked. Thanks, Bridget! This blog is going to be an actual blog and not going to go off topic, like the others usually are. This blog is strictly just for the things we do as a class. So, right now, we are correcting Bridget's blog which is filled with errors. Sort of like mine will be. Now, we are taking out our CAASPP sample questions and our poem packets to answer the questions within the sample. I'm guessing the class will be quiet while filling it out the essay questions we have. This will be painful for me... Should poetry be continued to be taught at schools? I said no. What do you think? I'm finished somehow. I thought it would take me longer, and people would have to wait o

Agenda Blog Corrections CAASPP sample questions poem in your pocket day! readers/writers workshop the art of the Thank You! Homework- 26 poems read and written. We started class, and I really wanted to die. I was already in a really bad mood. Then, I got picked for the blog, and I was really annoyed.  THEN, Ayden had to open his mouth, and ughhhhhh. So, now I am sitting here, still wanting to die. I really hate Conlan, because it is all of his fault that any of this happened in the first place, because he thought I should do the blog. So, congrats, Conlan, you are doing the blog tomorrow. I hope you have a ton of fun. Ms. Nakada passed out the CAASPP thing, so I'm going to go do that. I am so over testing. I just do not see how they prove any thing about your level of intelligence. Bruno asked me to mention him, so I am going to talk about how annoyed Bruno and I were during PE, when a certain teacher decided she wasn't going to tell us that we couldn't make up a

So, hello again, period 4 English class. I should really not be writing this blog, because I feel like I have already done my third blog, if you count my last one. [But it didn't.] Agenda  Blog Corrections Q&Q 15 week CAASPP sample? NaPoWriMo poems/ prompts HW 23 poems read EAP 23 poems written Collections due 5/8 So, I would really like to write more than a paragraph in this blog, but we have a history test to study for, and I have not read any of the book, so I am gonna do that now. GOODBYE! JK! I am not gonna repeat my same mistake. The first thing we did was correct Abril's blog, and it was riddled with mistakes. Then, we moved on to the Q&Q. The quote of the week was: "Water does not resist. Water flows. [...] Dripping water wears away stone. [...] Remember, you are half water. If you can't go through an obstacle, go around it. Water does," by Margaret Atwood. After the quote of the week, the class went into

Well, the time has come. I was really looking forward to this not coming. It's as simple as- wit no I won't reveal my mystical technique of not getting chosen for the blog. Agenda blog corrections extra credit opps. napowrimo poems and prompts 4 prompts It's lonely here in my small little blogging corner. I hear so many things I could comment on, but no one would hear me. Being the blogger casts a cloak of invisibility on you. Strangely enough, your hearing senses peak too, so one hears more and listens as they miss out on more. So, never mind that. How do you get any classwork done while being the blogger anyway. Oh my struggle. We start reading a poem. Wait, not yet. Ms. Nakada doesn't like her kids??? Okay, we start. Wait, not yet. Ms. Nakada would die for her children. Sweet. Let the poem reading begin. Hi Agenda blog corrections  CAASPP sample? NaPoWriMo poems & prompts HW 19 poems  read & written  So, we started the class correcting the blog, and it was short. Also, my blog will be short, so yep. We all got CAASPP sample questions and it only had two questions. Then, after we finished that, we all had to take out our poetry packets. Ms. Nakada read the poem " The Laughing Heart"  by Charles Bukowski, and she asked what the poem is about. (Also you should cover the camera or this man will look at you.) His name is Mark  Zucc erberg. So, the class is talking about the poem, and I am writing on my paper and not typing it in the blog. Then, we started talking about Trey. We moved on to a new poem, which has no name, but it is written by Emily Dickinson, and it is another bird poem. So, we finished and the NaPoWriMo Prompt for the day is to write a _________ thread poem. So, since the period is about to end we get some time to write or rea

Agenda Blog • Corrections CAASPP Sample Na Po Wri Mo poems & prompts HW 18 poems read and written This blog is going to very short. The class just finished correcting Hannah's blog, and Ms. Nakada is passing out a test. Several minutes later, I can tell that everyone is done with their tests, because the class got noisy. A lot of people got a ten out of ten. Now, we are watching a video about a poem called 'Poetry'. After the video, Ms. Nakada starts discussing the prompts for Na Po Wri Mo. The class starts writing their poems. Ayden, Willa, Veronica, Madeline, Ms. Nakada and Shoshana read their poems to the class.  HI! IT'S ME, AGAIN! GROUP VOTE! DOES MISSISSIPPI SUCK? YES  or NO

AGENDA Blog corrections CASSPP sample? NaPoWriMo poems & Prompts Shoshana chose me for the blog, which is what I wanted because it's Tuesday. Then, we corrected Shosh's blog which only had a few mistakes. We had to do blog corrections on paper, because everyone was talking. Veronica and Bruno fought over whether a comma or semi-colon was needed for one of the corrections in Shosh's blog. Next, we took out our poetry packets, and Ms. Nakada handed out practice tests. While we were working on our practice tests, Ms. Nakada checked our Quotes and Questions of the Week. After we finished, Ms. Nakada told us to take out a red pen and handed out red pens to the people who didn't have any. We corrected our practice tests. Then, Ms. Nakada told us that we will take five practice tests, and you can choose four of your tests to go in the grade book. A bunch of people are mad about the last question of the test.  Here are some things happening around the class

It's Chelsea's birthday! So happy birthday Chelsea! Today's Agenda is: Blog Corrections Q & Q 15 week grades NaPoWriMo - Prompts and Poems HW: 16 poems and prompts written! We start off by reading Karla's blog. Now, we are going over the quote and question of the week which results to the topic of  Friends . So, apparently, Ms. Nakada does not like  Friends , and I don't know if I trust her anymore. The quote of the week is, "Dictators are always afraid of poets." - Ursula K. Leguin. The question of the week is: When/where are you most truly yourself? Ayden answers with, "the boys," which causes Ms. Nakada to make him rephrase his answer. I hear a constant, "who run the world, ________." Now, we are going through our 15 week grades. We read a poem called "There Are Birds Here"   by Jamaal May. We discuss the poem and relate it to things people say. I mean the stereotypes. Over the wee

Hi! AGENDA: BLOG CORRECTIONS Book Bracket NaPoWriMo: Poems and Prompts HW: 13 Poems read and written! 15 by Monday! Ms. Nakada tells us to take our book brackets out and to grade them. My book bracket was dead the minute Big Ideas lost, so I only got 44.  The Outsiders  won apparently, which is disappointing. I was rooting for  Wonder  if  Creating America  lost, which it did. Ms. Nakada also asked us to take out our poems to check. Everyone is talking around me, and Ayden and Ms. Nakada are arguing, kind of. I sit and wait for Ms. Nakada to check my poems.  Now, we are taking out our poem packets and reading "Before" by Ada Limon. This poem is about life changing and looking back and seeing one moment fixed in time. It's really quiet in the classroom, besides Ms. Nakada talking about the poem. It's a sad poem, which I guess explains why it's so quiet. The prompts for poems today are write a an insect poem and write a poem about your favor

AGENDA BLOG Corrections Book Bracket NaPoWriMo: Poems/Prompts HW: 12 poems read and written We started off class by correcting Brandon's blog. Now we are voting for the book bracket, and it is between The Hunger Games and The Outsiders . After we vote, we take out our poem packets and read "Tired" by Langston Hughes. In the poem, Langston is referring to the world and the people in it as rotten fruit. After that, we read "This is Just to Say" by William Carlos Williams. We talk about the poem and take notes. We read "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost, "Fog" by Carl Sandurg, and "Toy Boat" by Ocean Vuong. After we read and take notes on all the poems, Ms. Nakada tells us that we have to have a list of poems read and written for her to check tomorrow. We talk about the prompts you could use for your poems. Today's prompt is that you could write a lament poem, and/ or write about the last time you cooked for yourself. Ms.

Agenda Blog Corrections  Analyzing SBAC Book Brackets NaPoWriMo We correct Ben Wendell's blog. I am chosen by the class to do the blog. We now have to take out notes from yesterday and our test scores for English and math in seventh grade. The notes we are taking are in hopes for us to do well on the district tests coming up. The class is asked how they exceeded in listening because many people are confused on the part of the test. Ms. Nakada tells us that we should listen to detail and try to read the questions multiple times. Now, we need to set a goal for the research/inquiry which is about how to tell which source is more reliable. I look around the class I see Mingus shake his pencil and points at me. Ben is playing with Greg's lacrosse stick. The class votes for Wonder and The Outsiders as well as The Hunger Games and Harry Potter. The votes by the class are pretty much what I thought. We read the poem "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time"

You are right, Kenzy. I didn't know of that competition, but I sure do now. Even so, you didn't have to pick me! Agenda Blog · Corrections Analyzing SBAC NaPoWriMo: Poems and Prompts Homework (I didn't wanna make a box): 10 poems read and written! Alright, we start off class with writing down the agenda, which I believe is a tedious procedure that has no relevance. [Actually, this is an extremely important habit to develop. I actually do this for your benefit. In high school, there will be no agenda, no teacher reminding you to write things down, so if you chose not to, you may.] This isn't my class, though. [You're right. NO POINT FOR YOU!] Next, Ayden comes in late because he was "in the bathroom." I don't fall for your tricks. We read Kenzy's blog, which includes a guest appearance by Chris Bosh and a rant about the Cat in the Hat. Good job, Kenzy. Next, we talk about the SBAC tests and how they evaluate our level of in

Time for another short blog by me that is not rant about Argentina, but it does have a picture                of Chris Bosh (don't know why we're doing this now). NEW RULE: CHRIS BOSH IS NOW INCLUDED IN THE BLOG. Agenda: Blog corrections Q&Q Book Bracket NaPoWriMo & Poem Prompt       We start our day reading Thor's (and I guess Bruno's) rant on Argentina. Mingus tells Thor to pick me and I am now doing this. Ben does not know this, but I have been in a secret competition with him to see if I would be picked for the blog before him. Anyway, we are doing book bracket even though the Agenda says that we were supposed to do Q & Q first. I was too busy typing, and now we moved to something different that I did not hear the name of so now I will do the Q&Q. The quote for today is...             "Carpe diem. Seize the day. Agenda Blog+Corrections Book Brackets NaPoWriMo: poetry/prompts HW: 5 poems read and written, 8 by Sunday! Ola, meus amigos. Crayfish has chose me. Why, may I ask? I've illegally returned to this crappy MacBook in a desperate attempt to squeeze a forced laugh out of you guys. Hogging the computer so that someone who hasn't actually done their blog can relax for an additional 24 hours until I probably pick Jose again, I will again properly educate everyone about the  horrors of that awful beast known as  Argentina , from the totally accurate perspective of a South Central Brazilian-American.  And me. Cool stuff out here in Clase del Nakada. I hear Veronica's voice, as usual. Cool beans. Look at that wow what yes no maybe so I see Mingus looking like an anxious college student, per the usual. We are doing book brackets. If you haven't noticed, this is my fourth blog. I personallly think Pixel Raiders should take the crown. Ms. Nakada said "y'all" again. We are looking at what makes a poem a poem. We are discussing a poem called "Because You Asked about the Line Between Prose and Poetry" by Howard Nemerov. We took notes on NaPoWriMo.

Agenda Blog corrections DC Blogs Q&Q Book Brackets Happy NaPoWriMo! HW Read & Write 3 poems today Yo, it's my third blog; I haven't done this in a really long time. We started by talking about Gabe. Then, we talked about the Quote of the Week. "If I feel as if the top of my head has been taken off, I know that is poetry." Emily Dickinson. Ayden's favorite type of slam poetry are love poems. Since it is poetry month, we have to write a poem a day. Our question of the week is: What do people gain from loss/losing? We did book bracket voting and we couldn't keep quiet so Ms. Nakada told us to put our heads down. Ms. Nakada tripped on a wire and survived. I wouldn't be able to do that. I would just eat the floor and it would hurt. Over spring break I fell of a cliff at Mammoth and fractured my wrist, but thankfully not too badly. Basically, I was applying for the team for skiing and snowboarding. I had enough time to f

It is the last day and it’s 30 degrees, it’s freezing. We woke up then we all got dressed and went outside cuz it was snowing. For about 1 hour we all played in the snow. We then went to a church named basilica of the National shrine of the immaculate conception. It was the biggest church I have ever seen. It was beautiful inside. After the church we went out in the freezing cold snow again and threw snowballs at each other. We then got to Bob and he drove us to the mall. We stayed at the mall for a long time then bob picked us up again. Bob drove us to the airport and that concludes the last day of our trip.

Today I woke up at 7:50 when breakfast ended at 8. I got up went to get some and came back to get packed. After I packed I went down and played cards until 10:30 when we got on the bus. We went to a really big and cool church for about 30 minutes then got back in the bus. The chaperones told us that we were going to go to the mall for a while but they they increased the time we would spend there an extra hour making it last until we would have to get on the airplane. Once we got to the airport we got to our gate and went to get some food. When we got back we had almost 20 minutes until we got on the flight. When we got on I watched a movie with Emilien then went to sleep for about 3 hours. When I woke up I spent the last hour of the flight looking out the window, playing cards, and practicing shuffling cards.

Hey, this is the only blog of our last day, eh?  We woke up and were pretty sad that it was our last day in DC and that this was our only day to play in the snow. Our room left off to the drop-off zone, where we threw snowballs and snow bombs at each other. A few of us were going to make a snowman, but you know how 8th grade coordination is. After a bunch of playing around and tipping on the verge of frostbite, the Almighty Bob and his prophet Chad showed up, who took us to the largest Catholic church in North America, which isn’t even a church. It’s a basilica, because it’s so darn big. But whatever, basilicas are just big churches. I went inside, removed my hat and sunglasses, educated my non-believing brethren about going to church, and browsed around. After walking around on the lower level and seeing all the stuff they had to offer downstairs, we went back up and bombarded everyone with heaping loads of snow. This continued for a while until the Almighty Bob shows up in his bu

I woke up to the startling wake-up call. It's starting to annoy me and it's only my second day. I dress warmer than before because according to the weather app on my phone it was gonna be colder (this was only true for half the day). Soon we're heading down to breakfast (April, Camilla and myself as we are sharing a room). There are bacon, eggs and the infamous extremely slow waffle maker (also fruit, yogurt, pastries stuff and cereal), I serve myself the bacon, eggs a banana and a cinnamon roll. Once we're all done we head to the bus, where amazing Bob was waiting for us and we got on.      I forgot to charge my camera, so I did it on the bus because the bus has outlets, then I put some earbuds in and zoned out. Chad, our guide person, (who goes by his middle name) tells us about stuff we're passing and our schedule for the day. Then the parents make him tell us that the hotel doesn't like how much noise we were making the day before and not to try to fit al
