Mirae's First Blog

WARNING: This'll probably be bad, so be prepared. Gee, thank you  so much Jose  for giving me this  wonderful  chance to write my first blog. Well, might as well just get this over with since I have to do this whether I want to or not.  I'll think carefully over the weekend on who I should choose for the next blog, but I think I'll enjoy doing that. On that note, we started off our class (as always) by writing down the Agenda and H.W. in our binder reminders. AGENDA: Blog・Corrections RJ ✓ Writer's Workshop HW  Enjoy your weekend! After we all wrote down the Agenda and H.W., the people that didn't do their STAR Tests, finished, and the rest of class started to read their Reading Journals in their groups. Then, the people that had good summaries of the chapter read theirs. Ms. Nakada's summary of Ch. 9 was:  3.3  Pony asks everyone why they fight. At the rumble, Darry & his old friend face-off. Dally & Pony race to the hospital

Thanks a lot, Brandon. I really appreciate it. Agenda Blog corrections RJ✓ Writer's Workshop:       Topics, Genres, and Audiences HW  RJ 3.3  T.O.  p. 131-149 We started out by reading Brandon's blog, and then I got chosen to write the next blog. The students read their reading (hahaha) journals and some students with good journals (Ryan's isn't included) read theirs out loud. This is the reading journal Ms. Nakada put on the board: 3.2 At the hospital, Johnny is in bad shape, and refuses to see his mom. Dally can't wait for the rumble and asks for Two-Bit's knife. They see Cherry, and Pony and Cherry argue and reconnect. We continued the Writer's Workshop from yesterday with the topics, genre, and the audience. Ms. Nakada introduced two books in verse called  Booked  and  Out of the Dust . Ms. Nakada also tells us to fill in this sentence: I'm writing a ____________(genre) about ____________(topic) for ____________(audien

This is my first blog. Thank you, Jackie, so much, for the honor. Agenda Blog corrections RJ ✅ Portfolios  English Scores reader's workshop Hw RJ 3.2 T.O.   p.114-130 The summary for yesterday 3.1 At the hospital, we hear Dally will be fine. At home, Ponyboy is exhausted. The next day, the gang stops by with the the newspaper. Two-Bit stays with Pony, and they run into Randy, a Soc. He and Pony talk about what happened.* Sandy moved. We talk about The Outsiders and read aloud the journal summaries. We learn that Sandy is pregnant. Then, we start our portfolios in our journals. In our journals, we number assignments: course expectations, first day letter, summer passport, summer book  project, RJ 1.1-1.2, RJ 2.1-2.4, Binder check #1. Students passed back our book reports, and Ms. Nakada showed Maddie's, saying she was creative because she printed out an instagram page, and did original art work. We had to sum up all the grades we got back out of one h

*I'm bad at this writing type of thing, so I'm sorry if there's a lot of grammar or writing mistakes* Why, Thor, why out of all people, me? Since I was The Chosen One to write this blog, let's get started. When we got to class, we sat down and copied the agenda. AGENDA Blog Corrections Q&Q Intro to Writer's Workshop Reader's Workshop HW~RJ 3.1 T.O. pg 100-118 After we copied the agenda, Thor read his blog and also read the recipe at the bottom. I wasn't surprised when I was chosen. I knew I would be chosen by one of Ayden's friends sooner or later. Then, we wrote down the Quote of the Week and Question of the Week: Quote ~ "There is a fine line between free speech and hate speech. Free speech encourages debate whereas hate speech incites violence." ~ Newton Lee We learned that this quote means we have to be careful when saying things that might offend other people. Question ~ How should people respond t

God help me. Ben said to me that he'd pick me to do the blog during P.E, explaining that he wanted me to be funny. Apparently, I'm good at that. So, here I am, writing a blog for the class to see and most likely ridicule.  Yay. Here's your agenda, if you don't have it: AGENDA BLOG - corrections - RJ ✔ Intro to Writer's Workshop The Writing Process HW -  Have a great weekend. The group of children and children-at-heart that we call "Ms. Nakada's 4th Period" started by doing stuff about  The Outsiders ,  as usual . People read their summaries as usual, if they even did them in the first place.  Here's the summaries that were put on the board: 2.3  Pony wakes up at the church and Johnny heads out to get supplies. They pass the next few days smoking, reading  Gone With The Wind , and playing cards. Dally shows up with news and a letter from Soda. Cherry is a spy! 2.4  Johnny wants to turn himself in b

Oh no. As I unsuccessfully tried to hide from Charlotte under my desk, she called on me to do the next blog. So, here I am, writing my blog. Agenda BLOG - Corrections Ch. 1 - 4 Quiz Reader's Workshop      AR & STAR HW : RJ 2.4         T.O.   p. 85-100 To start off the day, as usual, we copied down the agenda and then began to correct the previous blog. As we neared the end of the corrections, we heard Watson's voice come over the intercom. "All assistant 8th graders please report to the principal's office IMMEDIATELY." Half the class then proceeded to get up and leave, snickering at us all the while. However annoyed she was, Ms. Nakada still decided that we need to take the quiz today, so now we are taking the quiz without half the class. Midway through the quiz, the TA's came back and started the quiz. After the quiz was finished, we began Reader's Workshop. Most people sat quietly and read, but Ryan decided to be different, so he got up

I had almost convinced myself that the day I was chosen to be the blogger would be the worst English class of my life, which was why I was so suprised when I volunteered myself for the unwanted position. I greatly suspect that I will be glad to get this over with. Agenda BLOG corrections   T.O.  Chapter 4 RJ✓ Reader's Workshop Elements of Plot Homework: RJ 2.3 T.O. P. 68-84 Quiz on Chapters 1-4 tomorrow! We began the period with copying down the agenda, then jumping straight into Bridget's blog corrections. Ms. Nakada strongly defended the Oxford comma, giving us a news title in which it appears, due to the lack of the comma, that Obama and Castro are getting married. We went over our reading journals for the 4th chapter of The Outsiders . "The blue Mustang rolls up with five Socs. They start a fight and try to drown Ponyboy. Johnny kills a Soc, and they go to Dally for help. Dally gives them money and a place to hide" was Ms. Nakada's summary. Afte

We did Bruno's blog corrections, and then Ms. Nakada handed out envelopes with important dates and the DC trip, yay! Ms. Nakada talked about a book called Mañana Iguana  ( I think that's the name). We discussed  The Outsiders,  and how the author does such a great job making you want to turn the page and read on. We went over the chapter 3 summary and read them to our partners. The summary of chapter 3; they leave the movies to take the girls home. Pony and the girls talk about life. The blue Mustang comes and the girls leave with them. Pony and Johnny fall asleep in a lot. Pony gets home late and Darry hits him. People who had really good summaries read them out loud. We discuss which lines reveal

...And so, the imaginary counter in my head ticked to 5 (days) as we commenced the second week in Ms. Nakada's classroom. I was, regretfully, picked by Greg and now, I'm doing my first blog! 😭 We started off by copying the agenda... BLOG- corrections- Q&Q "Total Eclipse" Reader's workshop RJ ✅ ...and the homework: RJ 2.1 T.O. p. 37-52 Today, for the first time in 38 years, a solar eclipse shed its darkness on our country, so, we (naturally) based our quote of the week on that. "Seeing a partial eclipse bears the same relation to seeing a total eclipse as kissing a man does to marrying him, or as flying in an airplane does to falling out of one."We also checked out  Time Magazine 's awesome website where you can simulate the eclipse from your point of view (totally not free publicity for  Time ...).  Next, we jumped to our question of the week; who is ultimately responsible for educating society? I believe that

Oh God why. Ayden, out all the people, you picked me. Well then, let's begin. We walked into the classroom and we copied the agenda. Agenda Blog corrections Intro to reader's workshop Collect summer assignments RJ ✓ AR/STAR testing HW Enjoy the weekend! Then, Ms. Nakada talked about a story for how her favorite new word is "Jeesh." Then, she showed us some editing stuff and I didn't really pay attention because I was too worried about this. So, then we corrected Ayden's blog. Then, we added in our table of contents for the English class notes. We learned about reader's workshop. Bruno skipped pages by 'accident' when he did it on purpose. We made a T-chart in our book with one side for reading entertainment and one for close reading.  As a class w/ Ms. Nakada we talked about the difference between the two: how if you're reading for enjoyment and if it's assigned reading you painfully suffer through the book (most o

Hi there, it's your boy, Ayden. I was chosen for this by Willa, so thank you Willa for that. It is the third day of school, and I believe that everyone is starting to realize that we are in eighth grade, and we have to step up and that we have a long road ahead. First things first, everyone sat down and copied the agenda. BLOG * corrections RJ ✅ * The Outsiders Summer assignments AR/STAR tests HW: RJ 1.2 T.O. pages 19-36 After that, we went over Willa's blog, and let's be real here, she is way better at English than I am, so don't be surprised if I don't match her level of literacy. After that, we went over our reading journal about the first chapter of The Outsiders , which I have to say is so far an amazing book. From the first chapter, we can gather that the book's protagonist is a kid named Ponyboy. Ponyboy has a brother named Sodapop and another named Darry who are all in a gang called "The East Side Greasers." Darry is the dominant r

Agenda BLOG⧫Q&Q collect course expectations and letters The Outsiders reading journals HW: RJ 1.1 T.O. p. 1-18 The second day was upon us, and I was relieved to be entering Ms. Nakada's classroom without the scathing burden of textbooks to carry. At our arrival, we copied down the agenda and revealed our homework. During this time, Ms. Nakada asked for a volunteer to write the first blog of the year (or second, if you're counting hers). Suddenly, my name was uttered out of near everyone's mouths, and without my consent, I was sent to document the day in my very own voice. If you were to ask me to describe my election, I would say it was like the Hunger Games; except that I didn't volunteer and no one saluted me. So far all that has happened was Ms. Nakada furiously manipulating the computer and introducing us to such legends as the aisle pile and the 'in box'. Also, we were handed The Outsiders, which the majority of us cracked open immediat

Agenda Welcome course expectations syllabus ⃟ BLOG first day letter HW: Return signed expectations and letter to Ms. Nakada It was already 4th period! The first day was flying by when my fourth period came in. My new students chose their seats in the room and everyone started to write down the agenda. I took attendance and got to know all 37 of my new students. After attendance, we went over the course expectations. We talked about supplies, homework, grading, and class rules. Then, we went over the syllabus. We have so much to read and write and discuss and think about. We will be starting with The Outsiders and think about how race/class/gender impact stories and our communities. After that, we came up with this blog name. I forgot to do this with almost all of my other classes, so at least we have a blog in this class. I read my letter to students, and talked about the homework for tonight (get the course expectations signed, and write a letter to Ms. Nakada). My
