Ayden's First Blog

Hi there, it's your boy, Ayden. I was chosen for this by Willa, so thank you Willa for that. It is the third day of school, and I believe that everyone is starting to realize that we are in eighth grade, and we have to step up and that we have a long road ahead.

First things first, everyone sat down and copied the agenda.

After that, we went over Willa's blog, and let's be real here, she is way better at English than I am, so don't be surprised if I don't match her level of literacy.

After that, we went over our reading journal about the first chapter of The Outsiders, which I have to say is so far an amazing book. From the first chapter, we can gather that the book's protagonist is a kid named Ponyboy. Ponyboy has a brother named Sodapop and another named Darry who are all in a gang called "The East Side Greasers." Darry is the dominant role in their relationship. Since their parents died, he is taking their place. We learn about the Socials, (Socs) who is a rival gang on the west side. Ponyboy is walking home from a movie when he is jumped by the Socs. His brothers and the rest of the greasers (Steve, two-bit, Dally, and Johnny) come to the rescue and scare them off. We learn that Soda wants to marry Sandy.

After we go over the summary, Ms. Nakada teaches us about the term "Show don't tell." By that, she means in the chapter Ponyboy didn't just tell us the Socs hate them, he shows us by the Socs jumping him. She also talks about sub-plots for example, Pony not thinking that Darry loves him, Soda leaving when he marries Sandy, and their family being broken apart.

For a part of the period our class got to take AR tests. Some of ours did not work when we tried to take a test on our summer books, so this is very convenient.  She also talked about our attendance point system where if we get ten points we get to have a reward. To get a point, everybody must be in class.  One of the rewards can be... (shhh don't tell the fuzz).
